In breaking news, the Ottawa Senators have announced the firing of their head coach, along with who will be replacing him as the new leader of the Sens.

Senators Fire DJ Smith and Hire His Replacement Along With Daniel Alfredsson

The Ottawa Senators have announced today the firing of their Head Coach DJ Smith. The firing comes after the Senators have struggled to be competitive again this season, despite having the assets in place to do so.
Taking his place as Interim Head Coach will be Jacques Martin, and the Senators also announced that they will be bringing in Senators legend Daniel Alfredsson as an assistant coach.
News Release: D.J. Smith has been relieved of his head coaching duties; Jacques Martin has been named #Sens interim head coach. Daniel Alfredsson joins the team's coaching staff as an assistant coach:
It was long speculated that Smith was on the verge of losing his job if the Senators couldn't make the jump to being competitive, as they are entering the latter portion of their rebuild and have successfully put the pieces in place to field a competitive roster.
