NHL Award Winning Goaltender Passes Suddenly at 52

The hockey world is in mourning today after learning of the news that a goaltender with over 200 games in the NHL has died.

Roman Cechmanek Passes Away at 52

Roman Cechmanek played 212 regular season games in the NHL from 2000 to 2004. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers, where he played most of his games, His last season in the NHL was with the Los Angeles Kings.
"Tragic news hit Czech hockey. Roman Cechmanek, the Olympic champion from Nagano and world champion, died at the age of 52."

Former NHL Goaltender Died Suddenly at 52

Cechmanek and teammate Robert Esche won the William M. Jennings trophy in 2003 for the tandem with the best goals against average in the NHL. Cechmanek also won gold at the 1998 Olympics, however he served as backup to Dominik Hasek for the entire tournament. He also won World Championship gold in 1999 and 2000. So far, it is not clear how he died.
