The Philadelphia Flyers started strong a season ago, but ultimately fell off towards the end of the season, with standout performances from a few young names providing them optimism moving forward. That positivity was boosted by the arrival of hyped rookie Matvei Michkov, who is expected to lead the team forward for years to come, but according to GM Danny Briere, expectations within the building are much lower.
One thing that does give the front office hope however is the presence of veteran Head Coach John Tortorella, who Briere believes can shape Michkov into a star in the NHL, even if there's going to be some fireworks along the way.
In the past, Tortorella has been criticized for his handling of young players in the league, but it appears as though he has the full support of the front office in Philadelphia, who trust him to develop Michkov the right way. Ultimately, it's unclear if there will be fireworks or not, but given the immense talent that Michkov has, if he can be coachable, this could be a star in the making in Philadelphia.
