NHL Faces Backlash For Tasteless Social Media Post
The NHL can't seem to stay out of trouble, and this time it's coming in the form of a social media post of theirs, which was met with incredibly strong reactions from fans.
NHL Celebrates Greiss
Thomas Greiss announced his retirement from the NHL on Wednesday, which would've normally been a cause for celebration had he not been involved in so much controversy. The NHLPA made a post on Twitter congratulating Greiss on his retirement, and fans were quick to push back.
There were more reactions, but these were just a few that stood out. Nobody seems to be pleased with the NHL's handling of this, and if you don't know why, we're going to tell you.
Greiss' History
Thomas Greiss has come under fire numerous times throughout his career for different viewpoints that he holds. The German-born goaltender has been caught liking racist social media posts and was even accused of including neo-Nazi imagery in his mask design.
Greiss' actions got him banned for life from the German National Hockey Team, as they take any affiliation to neo-Nazism very seriously. While he is an accomplished goaltender, his personal views and actions have tainted his reputation irreparably.
