Macklin Celebrini was always going to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, and now Sharks GM Mike Grier has officially confirmed those suspicions.

For months now, Macklin Celebrini has been the prize at the end of many teams in the NHL who have been tanking, and with the best odds to land the No. 1 overall pick, the San Jose Sharks were confirmed to have the pick at the recent NHL Draft Lottery. Now, in a recent interview, Mike Grier leaked the Sharks game plan for the pick, revealing that he's already met with Macklin ahead of the historic night;
Grier says he'll meet with Celebrini and family and representation after Draft to decide if Macklin will come outthen Mike pauses, «Did I say Macklin?»

The Draft isn't until next week

With the No. 14 overall pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Sharks have two top picks to load up with two more potential stars, who will join what many consider to be one of the top prospect pools in the entire NHL.
Although optimism has been low in San Jose in recent years, this pick has their fans incredibly excited, and after a fantastic draft in 2023, the future is looking bright, although it's very likely that even with Celebrini on the roster in 2024 (yet unconfirmed whether he will return to Boston or jump to the NHL), they'll still struggle. Celebrini is expected to be a star however, and if the Sharks have him as the centrepiece of their organization, things will look better and better as time goes on.
