Macklin Celebrini showed out in an incredible NHL debut, but now the No. 1 overall pick of the San Jose Sharks has suffered a huge setback just days after his much awaited NHL debut.

From the moment the San Jose Sharks won the draft lottery, GM Mike Grier and the organization knew who the pick would be, and a few months into the life of Macklin Celebrini as a Shark, things are looking very positive. In his first career game, Celebrini stunned with a goal and an assist as the Sharks looked like a very competitive team, giving the fans some much needed optimism.
Unfortunately, things have turned sour in a hurry for San Jose and the former No. 1 overall draft pick, as Celebrini has now suffered an injury and will officially be headed to the injured reserve.
This is a major setback for the 18-year old that came into the league with so much hype, and after a 2 point game against St. Louis, fans were already crowning him the Calder Trophy winner. That early season hype will now die down however, as he's now set for a stint on the sidelines after suffering a lower body injury, with the stint on the injured reserve needing to last a minimum of three games.
The past few seasons have been tough in San Jose, with the team moving on from David Quinn in hopes of ushering in a new, youthful movement in the organization, and with Celebrini leading the way, confidence remains high, so the hope is that this injury won't linger and we will see the former Boston University star back on the ice and thriving in the very near future.
