On Thursday night, the Edmonton Oilers took down their Pacific Division rival Seattle Kraken, but it wasn't without plenty of controversy and physicality, and now a key member of the Kraken has paid the price.
Unfortunately for Gourde, he did so in a very illegal manner, and when he faced the NHL's DoPS on Friday, they handed down a two-game suspension.
We've seen plays like this result in lesser suspensions or even just fines recently, but with the NHL looking to crack down on this type of play, it comes as no surprise. This is a big blow for the Kraken however, who are within reach of a Wild Card spot in the West, so to lose someone for even two games could be a massive blow for their season.
