Leafs Head Coach Takes Surprising Shot at Kyle Dubas
Near the end of his tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs, former GM Kyle Dubas was rumoured to have a rocky relationship with current Head Coach Sheldon Keefe. It would appear now that Keefe is slyly remarking on Dubas' past performance.
On the new assistant coaches hired by current GM Brad Treliving, Keefe had this to say:
"It's as complete a staff as we've had in my time." - Sheldon Keefe
While this certainly isn't a direct callout of Dubas, it is a rather peculiar way for Keefe to frame his excitement over his new staff and their experience.
It is quite possible that Keefe is using his platform to show Treliving he is all in on the recent changes made to the organization. Keefe was one of the few remaining Staff members to survive the purge after the departure of Kyle Dubas.
But Keefe isn't out of the water just yet. Opinions in the media were mixed on the decision to keep him behind the bench this season. It's highly likely that Keefe would take the brunt of the blame for a slow start to the 2023-24 campaign, which might cost him his job.
Either way, the pressure is on for the new-look Leafs this upcoming season.
