The Toronto Maple Leafs are off to a hot start in 2023-24, and excluding injuries, it appears that their lineup is set for the foreseeable future, with just one notable absence.

The forgotten top prospect

This summer and the beginning of the season, all the talk in Toronto has been about the emergence of Matthew Knies (second line) and Fraser Minten (third line), as the team have handled the rise of two talented young names very well.
Unfortunately, that leaves one former top prospect on the outside looking in, as it appears there is no room in the current lineup for former second-round draft pick Nick Robertson.

Trade request incoming?

A lot of his struggles have come due to injury over the past 18 months, but now he's healthy and ready to go, but unfortunately, with a stacked lineup full of veterans and other prospects, it appears he could be ready to find a new NHL home.
Five points in two games as Nick Robertson starts his AHL season. It wasn't easy for him to go back to the Marlies, but all you can do is produce and he's started right. Apparently, it was pointed out to him that the Maple Leafs carry the minimum 12 forwards, so there will be opportunity for him if something happens. You can also see a situation where if this goes too long, he might ask for a fresh start.
That comes from famed NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, and if he can't find a spot in the NHL in Toronto soon, it makes sense for him to look at other opportunities, and with the Leafs looking at some potential upgrades, this could be a move that helps both parties.
