Elliotte Friedman Reveals How Likely Toronto Is To Sign Patrick Kane
The Patrick Kane Sweepstakes is continuing as he remains unsigned as a UFA. As he goes unsigned longer and longer, speculation on which teams might land him has emerged.
Among those teams are the Buffalo Sabres, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Florida Panthers. However, the Toronto Maple Leafs have also been in the running.

Now, Elliotte Friedman has revealed that the Leafs are unlikely to be the landing spot for Kane this year.
"I don't see Patrick Kane happening, especially with the emergence of Nick Robertson and how well he's been playing. You have Matthew Knies, who's playing unbelievably. I don't think Kane fits necessarily right now for the Leafs. And I think those kind of talks have stalled, and that he'll be going elsewhere."
Essentially, Friedman believes that signing Kane will push some of Toronto's prospects to the side when they are developing into great players. Doing so would inhibit their development long after Kane retires.
Friedman says he believes the Leafs either have had or will have a conversation with Kane, but it seems unlikely that Kane ends up in Toronto
Kane Potentially Looking For Term Which Could Hurt Several Teams
It has been rumored that Patrick Kane is looking for term on his next deal. This could hurt many teams, including the Leafs, but also the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres are in a similar position regarding their prospects.

If Kane signs for longer than a year in Buffalo, which he is rumored to be looking at, then they risk pushing their prospects to the side as well.
