Kyle Dubas recently shared his biggest mistake during his tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In a recent interview, the former GM admitted that his biggest regret was pursuing captain John Tavares in 2018 NHL free agency, as the money he received impacted the organization's future moves.
Kyle Dubas revealed what he regrets the most about his tenure as Leafs GM
Dubas knew the Leafs have historically struggled with freeing cap space because of the cap space liable to the core, which led many fans to question the hefty seven year $77 million with a $10.7 million AAV investment in Tavares.
I'm thrilled to be starting a new chapter of my career and life in Toronto with the @MapleLeafs. I feel very fortunate to come join a team with a great young core and play where I grew up learning and loving the game. I can't wait to get started!
This decision came at a time when the team was grappling with contract issues for Mitch Marner and William Nylander.
The thing I learned was once we signed John to the (AAV) we did, it lifted the lid on the entire ceiling
Reflecting on the overpayment for Tavares, Dubas raised concerns among Pittsburgh Penguins fans.
Kyle Dubas is back in a familiar position, on the verge of extending a franchise star player. Will this situation play out like the previous one?
They hope he won't repeat the same mistakes, especially with Sidney Crosby demanding a new contract.
