There is an outpouring of grief in the hockey world today as a Stanley Cup champion, longtime member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and member of Team Canada at the '72 Summit Series Ron Ellis has passed away at the age of 79.
"Ron first joined the @MapleLeafs roster undrafted in the 1963-64 season for one game. He would find himself joining the team full-time the following season, and would remain a Maple Leaf for the rest of his @NHL career.

Ellis became a key member of the team, and would ultimately earn the highest honour in hockey of winning the Stanley Cup in 1967. He played in 1,034 regular-season games, scoring 640 points over his career. He was also an intricate part of the famed Canadian team in the 1972 Summit Series."
Ellis is just one of five players in the lengthy history of the Toronto Maple Leafs to play more than 1000 games for the team. He's also fifth in franchise history for goals scored.
Ellis is being remembered by many as a kind and humble man who was always willing to lend a hand.
"So sad to hear of Ron Ellis's passing. We worked together at the Hockey Hall of Fame for the 5 years I was there. You couldn't meet a more genuinely caring and lovely man. My condolences to his wife Jan and the entire family. 🙏"
"Ron Ellis wrote the forward for my book on Paul Henderson in 2011. We had many great chats. Wonderful man. Life well lived. RIP Ron. 🙏"
Our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Ron Ellis.
