Max Pacioretty has been linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs for some time, and now the former Canadiens captain is all but confirmed to be joining the team.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some very intriguing additions this summer, with the blue line getting a major boost, but thus far, the only forward they've added has been free agent Alex Nylander. Now, another is seemingly on the way, with Frank Seravalli confirming that the Maple Leafs will indeed be bringing in former Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty as a free agent.
The deal isn't yet official, as the Maple Leafs need to make some moves to clear salary cap space, but with plenty of names that they can move, it appears to be just a matter of time until it gets done. In 2023/24, Pacioretty played in 47 games with the Washington Capitals after suffering an achilles injury last year, and in that time he showed flashes of his old self, tallying a solid 4 goals and 23 points in that stretch.
Now, he will take up a role in the Maple Leafs bottom-six, and given the young names like Nick Robertson, Pontus Holmberg, Fraser Minten and Easton Cowan looking to push for a spot, he'll be an excellent veteran presence alongside them. Given Toronto's aspirations this year, this is a very good move for the team as they add depth and scoring to this team, and if Pacioretty can stay healthy, we may be looking at one of the best teams in a loaded Eastern Conference as Toronto look to end a 57 year Stanley Cup drought.
