The Vancouver Canucks are off to a solid start in 2023-24, as is their biggest star, who remains an unrestricted free agent next summer, despite reported interest from the team in keeping him with the team.
A major pay day coming
After netting a career high 39 goals and 102 points a season ago, Elias Pettersson is off to another hot start this year, tallying 13 points through the teams first 8 games, and it appears his value is only going up.
So much so in fact that the reported buzz around the NHL right now is that the Swedish star could command as much as $12 million on the open market when free agency begins this summer.
A well deserved raise
Despite being paid over $10 million AAV right now, Pettersson has taken his game to another level over the past 18 months, and at just 24-years of age, he's only going to get better as time goes on.
Right now, it's uncertain whether or not the Canucks with their projected $31 million in cap space for next season will indeed lock him down to a long-term deal, but if they don't, we may be seeing yet another superstar get a well-deserved mega deal this summer.
