With the rapid approach of "The Great Eight's" retirement, there has been chatter from Ovechkin himself on the future of the Washington Capitals' captaincy.

Alex Ovechkin has left one of the greatest marks on hockey and he will likely go down as a top 25 player to ever play the game. Ovechkin is currently 38 years old and is only starting to slow down in production. The Russian forward is sitting at 853 career goals, being headlined by a 65-goal season in the 2007-2008 season. This past season Ovechkin passed the 30-goal mark for the 18th time in his career out of 19 total seasons Ovechkin has played.
Tom Wilson is currently 30 years old but will likely not receive the captaincy from Ovechkin until he is 32-33 years of age as Ovechkin is chasing Gretzky's goal record. Tom Wilson also just received a 7-year deal in the past offseason which only helps his case for becoming the captain of the Washington Capitals.
