Initially, the Winnipeg Jets showed interest in acquiring Kirby Dach from the Canadiens in exchange for Dubois. However, Canadiens' GM Kent Hughes was not in favor of this trade.

Subsequently, the Jets proposed altering the deal by substituting Dach with Kaiden Guhle, but again, Hughes declined.
