After being a hero for the American squad at this year's World Junior Championships Rutger McGroarty has faced a lot of backlash for his and his teammates' actions.

McGroarty And Teammates Celebrate A World Juniors Gold Medal

After a spirited battle against Sweden at the World Juniors Team USA found themselves champions. In the final minutes of the game and the postgame, the Americans have been criticized for their actions of celebration.
These actions during the finals have left a bad taste in many fans' mouths. This has led McGroarty in particular to face backlash and harassment from fans in Sweden and around the world.

Jets Prospect McGroarty Harrassed By Fans

Since winning Gold Rutger McGroarty posted a photo dump on Instagram including moments from the World Juniors. McGroarty had been through a lot leading into the World Juniors after a terrifying injury while playing for the University of Michigan. In a celebratory post about all he has overcome McGroarty is facing a lot of hate from fans.

In the comments of this post, fans have been harassing McGroarty nonstop. Comments ranging from calling him dirty to classless McGroarty has heard it all.

Seeing a World Juniors star be harassed for their actions during the game has unfortunately not been uncommon in recent years. Since the popularity of social media has reached an all-time high the harassment the players have faced has increased as well.
Despite facing a ton of backlash and harassment McGroarty seems to be taking things in stride. He is healthy and will be returning to Michigan where he will look to guide that squad to a championship as well.
