Today a trade between the Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens that was made at the deadline can finally be completed. The completion comes after the Winnipeg Jets were officially eliminated from the playoffs by the Colorado Avalanche.
At the NHL trade deadline, the Winnipeg Jets made a major trade to bring in center Sean Monahan. In the trade, they gave up a 1st round pick and a conditional 3rd round pick.
The condition on the 3rd rounder required the Winnipeg Jets to win the Stanley Cup. With their loss in the Stanley Cup Playoffs to the Colorado Avalanche this is no longer possible.
Montreal #GoHabsGo will not receive the 2027 3rd round pick from the Sean Monahan trade.
As a result, looking back at the Sean Monahan trade now the Winnipeg Jets ended up only giving up a 1st round selection to bring him in for the rest of the season. While the Jets did not reach their ultimate goal it makes the addition sting a little less.
With Sean Monahan's contract expiring the Winnipeg Jets now have a crucial decision to make of whether or not to bring him back. As information is provided on this front we will pass it along to you.
