Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff seems to be shopping winger Nikolaj Ehlers and teams around the NHL are interested in trading for him including the New York Islanders.
Since breaking into the NHL in 2015-16, Nikolaj Ehlers has established himself as a star consistently scoring at 50+ point paces and even nearing the point-per-game plateau a few times. Entering the final year of his contract, it looks as if he is not in the Winnipeg Jets' long-term plans and is likely to be moved out.
It has been confirmed that the New York Islanders are amongst the teams interested in Ehlers' services.
If Ehlers is moved to the Islanders, he will likely slot alongside Mat Barzal on their first line and show off the best of his capabilities.
It is unknown what GM Kevin Cheveldayoff would be looking for from the Islanders in terms of a return but there are many solid targets such as defenseman Alex Romanov and forward JG Pageau.
We will be following the situation closely and are excited to see what happens with Ehlers and the Winnipeg Jets.
