Nikolaj Ehlers, the dynamic forward on the Winnipeg Jets for almost a decade might be eyeing a change of scenery.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Ehlers isn't looking to ink a new deal with the Jets. He has his sights set on icier rinks elsewhere. While he hasn't officially asked for a trade, rumor has it he'd be open to the idea.
According to a well-placed source close to the Jets, Ehlers is not interested in signing a contract extension with the club and that is
primarily why Winnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is exploring his options via the
trade market. It is unclear if Ehlers would entertain a contract extension - which he would not be eligible to sign until July 1, at the earliest - with a new team as part of a change of scenery but doing so would allow the Jets to
maximize a return.
Last month, word got out that Winnipeg's GM, Kevin Cheveldayoff, was thinking about putting Ehlers on the trading block.
Now, with this latest news, it seems like there's some truth to it. Ehlers just came off a season where he put up 61 points. Yet, despite his consistent performance, he hasn't always gotten the ice time he deserves and may a change of scenery. He has one year left on his current contract, with a reasonable $6.75 million price tag attached.
There's the question of whether he'd be willing to sign an extension with a new team right away. That could sweeten the deal for potential suitors. But now, it's up in the air.
