Today a new trade rumor has been provided linking disgruntled forwards for the Winnipeg Jets Nikolaj Ehlers and Rutger McGroarty to a new home.
This summer has been one of trade rumors involving big names for the Winnipeg Jets. First, it was Nikolaj Ehlers who reportedly is not pleased with his role over the last year. Then recently reports came flooding in that top Jets prospect Rutger McGroarty wants to be traded and is willing to not sign if he is not traded.
According to Murat Ates, Rutger McGroarty is now likely to be traded. #NHLJets #GoJetsGo
With all of the rumors surrounding these two players, one source put together a mock trade that would send both to a new team in return for a position of need for the Winnipeg Jets.
Winnipeg Jets partner with the Chicago Blackhawks in a huge trade
In this scenario, the Chicago Blackhawks would come calling to surround Connor Bedard with more offensive talent. The Jets would send both Nikolaj Ehlers and Rutger McGroarty to the Blackhawks. In return, the Jets would receive top defenseman for the Blackhawks Connor Murphy and former first-round pick Lukas Reichel as well as a 2024 first-round pick.
The proposed trade package from the Jets would send Ehlers and McGroarty to Chicago in exchange for defenseman Connor Murphy, forward Lukas Reichel, and a 2024 first-round pick from the New York Islanders.
For the Chicago Blackhawks, they bring in talent to surround Connor Bedard. They reunite college teammates Rutger McGroarty and Frank Nazar as part of their new core. This would also give Nikolaj Ehlers the guaranteed playing time he is hoping for.
On the side of the Winnipeg Jets, they continue to address their need on defense adding a veteran who can plug right in and play big minutes. They get a top prospect in Lukas Reichel who has been good at the AHL level but not broken out in the NHL. The extra first-round pick they receive would be at 18 and secure them another top prospect to re-fill their pool.
While this would be an enticing offer for the Winnipeg Jets they might be looking for more of a win-now move with fewer future assets if they are going to trade both Rutger McGroarty and Nikolaj Ehlers. A package similar to this could be part of a deal but with a player more experienced than Lukas Reichel coming back in return.
