NHL insider Elliotte Friedman provides a dramatic new update on the Cole Perfetti situation in Winnipeg

Throughout this entire off-season, things have seemed cordial and respectful between Cole Perfetti and the Winnipeg Jets front office, but with the regular season just three weeks away, things may be getting desperate between the two parties soon. According to top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the situation hasn't quite dissolved yet, as he reveals Perfetti is yet to dig his heels in like Jeremy Swayman in Boston, but it could be coming to that soon.

This report is backed up by Jets reporter Scott Billeck, who recently revealed on social media that the relationship hasn't soured, but the longer the two parties draw out the negotiation, the more likely that becomes.

On top of that, the Winnipeg Sun reporter also stated that there may come a point in time where those in Perfetti's camp start questioning whether or not the team believe in the 22-year old, as the comparisons are there for a new contract even if they aren't open to doing that business. It's becoming a very strange situation for those involved, as Perfetti seems to have all the work ethic and talent needed to be a star at the NHL level, and with his camp reportedly not asking at outrageous amount, it's very curious as to why a new deal hasn't been reached.

The team have continued on in training camp without him, and while he continues to put a positive spin on everything while he's active in the media and the community, it appears to be just a matter of time until things break down and bad news begins emerging publicly.
