The 2024/25 NHL season is almost upon us, and without a new contract, it's now been revealed that the Jets and Cole Perfetti are closing in on a new deal.

The Winnipeg Jets finally saw some great production out of former first-round pick Cole Perfetti last year, with 19 goals and 38 points showing just what he can be capable of at the next level. However, training camp is already upon us, and the RFA still doesn't have a new deal, which is quite concerning for plenty of Jets fans out there.
At this point in time, the Jets have just under $6 million in salary cap space to work with, but it's the deal of Dawson Mercer (3-years, $12 million) that may lead the Jets and Perfetti towards a deal, considering Mercer was seen as the perfect comp for Perfetti at this point.
There are obvious differences as pointed out above, but all in all, the two are similar enough for this to be a framework of a deal between Perfetti and the Jets, and now David Pagnotta has revealed they are indeed working hard to get a short-term deal done.
Ultimately, the two sides clearly want to get a deal done after Perfetti was absent from the beginning of training camp, and they've been in constant communication, so with the 22-year old coming off a career year, don't expect it to be too much longer before a deal gets done.
