The Winnipeg Jets flamed out of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs in spectacular fashion, and now, it appears they are already willing to move on from some veterans that have called Winnipeg home for quite some time. One of those players is Nikolaj Ehlers, who is officially on the trade block, according to several reports, as the veteran forward has done all he can to help this Jets team.
Now, one connection has already been made, with reporter Neil Smith linking him to Carolina, a place that has already tried to trade for him once before in the past.
It's unclear exactly how a trade would come together here, as both teams are looking to chase a Stanley Cup, with the Carolina Hurricanes still alive this season, although they face a 3-2 deficit against New York. As Smith points out, both Teravainen and Guentzel will hit the open market this summer, and if they can't manage to bring one or both of them back, giving up a young piece to land Ehlers makes sense, and is a move that fans should be keeping a very close eye on.
