The Chief of Police in London just revealed today at the press conference the reason why it has taken so long to press charges against the 5 players involved in the 2018 Team Canada World Junior Case.

London Chief of Police Reveals Initial 2018 Investigation Dropped

It has been over 5 years since the original incident took place in London, and it is just now that the 5 players involved in the scandal are being charged and going through the legal process. This lengthy investigation has raised questions about why the players weren't charged, and now the London Chief of Police has shed some light on the process.
London police chief Thai Truong said the department's original investigation into the 2018 world junior hockey players was closed due to "insufficient grounds to lay a charge"
The Detective working the case went into some more detail on the matter, saying that there were additional steps the Police could take to further the investigation, which is why they were able to lay charges now.
Detective Sergeant Katherine Dann said that, "upon review of the occurrence, it was determined that there were additional steps that could be taken to advance the investigation."

Dann said some evidence was not available in the 2018 inquiry and that new witnesses were found.

London Police Chief Apologetic For Length of Investigation

The Chief of Police also extended his apologies to the victim of the case, stating that it should not have taken this long for the investigation to play out. Here is his statement.
London Police Chief Thai Truong extends his "sincerest" apology to the victim of the alleged s***** a****** committed by members of the 2018 Canadian world junior team and her family "for the amount of time that it has taken to reach this point."
The case is still ongoing, and several details are likely to be revealed as the process goes through the courts. More details to come as they are revealed.
