In the statement, Bettman essentially noted that the Blackhawks were correct in how they handled the investigation into former Blackhawk Corey Perry. There previously had been some speculation that he could sue the team for a wrongful termination of his contract, but that now seems to be very unlikely. However, Bettman did not say that Perry would have to have some kind of special interview with the league to be reinstated as a free agent. As such, it seems like the 38-year-old is free to sign with a new team if he wants to. However, Bettman did appear to leave the door open on that front, so it is possible that Perry may still need to meet with the league at some point.
