Team Canada's journey in Sweden came to an abrupt end, much sooner than anticipated. They got eliminated rom the World Junior Championship in the quarterfinals, courtesy of Team Czechia.
Despite the absence of several star players on Team Canada's roster, the early departure of the team surprised many fans.
In a dramatic twist, with only a few seconds left in the third period, Czechia scored the game-winning goal and sent Canadian players back home.
TSN's Gord Miller shared shocking details after the game.

Team Canada's Quarterfinals Loss: Players Received Hate Messages and Threats on Social Media

According to Miller, fans sent hateful messages to the players after their heartbreaking defeat.
"I understand that people in Canada are disappointed with the QF loss, but it's disheartening to hear that some of the players are being subjected to nasty personal messages on social media. There's no need for that, they did their best and lost. Two years ago Canada won a gold medal in OT after a miraculous goal line save by Mason McTavish, last year they won the QF in OT on Conor Bedard's goal after a deflected Slovak shot hit the shaft of Thomas Milic's stick. It happens."

No athlete should have to receive hateful messages after a defeat. It's already a challenging period for them, and such behavior only makes things worse.
The young defenseman Oliver Bonk even decided to make his Instagram account private because of all the hate.
"Oliver Bonk put his Instagram on private after being attacked by Canada fans for a play that wasn't even his fault.

Bonk's shown how open he is about his mental health and for grown adults to attack a kid playing in a hockey tournament for teenagers is sick and disturbing."
They don't deserve this. It's truly sad to see "fans" act like this.
