Free Agent Nick Cousins signs with Canadian team

He is one of the most controversial players in today's NHL, and he now has a new contract fresh off of winning the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers. Nick Cousins has reportedly signed a one-year deal with the Ottawa Senators.

According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Nick Cousins one-year contract with the Ottawa Senators is worth 800K, which is the NHL's minimum salary.

As you may recall, Hockey Night in Canada analyst and former NHLer Kevin Bieksa ripped into Nick Cousins last season after repeated high hits to opponents, and a tendency to avoid dropping the gloves with teammates of victims.

There seemed to be a lot of support from fans for Bieksa's comments, as many had noticed the same things happening when it came to Nick Cousins. He will certainly add some grit, and perhaps even a bit of offense for the Ottawa Senators. At the same time, his teammates will likely need to be prepared to come to his defense at some point during the season. That's unless Cousins has turned his game around since the comments. Cousins played 69 games for the Florida Panthers in 2023-24, scoring 7 goals and 15 points. He took part in another 12 games in the Panthers postseason run to the Stanley Cup, netting an assist.
