Rutger McGroarty was recently introduced to the Penguins media and during his speech, he made comments about his time in Winnipeg and the Jets fans.

During a much-anticipated press conference, Rutger McGroarty, the Pittsburgh Penguins' newest rising star, opened up about his recent experiences in the NHL and his deep connection to Winnipeg. McGroarty, who was picked 14th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2022 NHL Draft, has quickly become one of the league's most talked-about young players. While he's settling in well with the Penguins, his affection for Winnipeg and its passionate fans was a key point in his chat with the media.

When asked about his time with the Jets and the city of Winnipeg, Rutger McGroarty spoke warmly about his experiences.
"Winnipeg will always hold a special place in my heart," he began. "The city, the organization, and the fans were incredible to me from day one. It's where I took my first steps as a professional, and I'll never forget the support I received there."

He also expressed his gratitude for the chance Winnipeg gave him to grow as a player.
"The Jets were instrumental in my development. They gave me a chance to play at the highest level, and I'm thankful for that. The coaching staff, my teammates, everyone was just top-notch."

Rutger McGroarty didn't miss the opportunity to give a shout-out to the passionate fan base in Winnipeg, stressing how their support motivated him during his time with the Jets.
"The fans in Winnipeg are some of the best in the NHL," McGroarty stated with a smile. "They're so dedicated and passionate. Whether we were winning or going through tough stretches, they were always there, cheering us on. It's something you don't forget as a player. They make you feel like you're part of something bigger, and that kind of support is rare."

He also mentioned how the fans' energy was a big factor during home games.
"Playing at Canada Life Centre in front of those fans was always special. The atmosphere they created, especially during big games, was electric. It's something I'll always remember, and I'm grateful to have experienced it."

As Rutger McGroarty kicks off this new chapter with the Penguins, he's excited about the future but made it clear that Winnipeg will always hold a special part in his heart.
"I'm thrilled to be with the Penguins now and to contribute to this team," he said. "But Winnipeg will always be a place I look back on fondly. It's where I grew a lot as a player and a person, and I'll always appreciate the time I spent there."

The press conference showed Rutger McGroarty's maturity and gratitude towards both the city of Winnipeg and the Jets organization, as well as his enthusiasm for the road ahead with Pittsburgh. It's clear that while he's focused on his future with the Penguins, Winnipeg and its fans will always be a memory he cherishes as he continues to make his mark in the NHL.
Despite not having ever played an actual regular season game with the Jets, Rutger McGroarty did get to suit up in some pre-season games, so whether fans believe that he was able to experience all of those emotions in meaningless games is up for debate, but he is clearly showing his compassion for the city and its fans.
