One of the more shocking storylines of the NHL right now is the fact that Steven Stamkos, one of the top-tier veterans in the NHL, was not resigned by the Tampa Bay Lightning this offseason or through the course of the season. Now, a new report has come out from the Athletic stating that his future in Tampa, where he was drafted back in 2008, could be in question.
It is hard to imagine Steven Stamkos playing somewhere else other than Tampa Bay. His legacy in Tampa is massive, playing his entire career there since 2008 and leading the Bolts to back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships in 2020 and 2021.
Stamkos still has what it takes to succeed in the NHL, too, as he has proved this season. He has 39 goals and 38 assists through 75 games this year, which is remarkable given his age. He has clearly earned an extension with the Bolts, but we will see if they give him one.
