NHL expansion has been a massive talking point this summer with the emergence of the Utah Hockey Club, but they may not be the NHL's newest team for long.

This off-season, the talk around further expansion in the NHL has gone from a possibility to seemingly a foregone conclusion, and according to top player agent Allan Walsh, that seems to be the case, with the NHL eyeing 34 teams, sooner rather than later.
«It's not a question of 'If?', it's a question of 'When?' for the next NHL expansion process, and we will reach 34 teams. I predict that the price to pay for each of the two new franchises will be $1.5 billion for the franchise purchase, more than double what Seattle had to pay in 2021.»

To anyone following along, this was already assumed, with the league seeing the money come in from these new teams as they look to add more and more revenue to the NHL, but this all but confirms we will have new teams somewhere in the near future. Unfortunately for Canadian fans, the team likely won't be headed to Quebec City or another team in Toronto, but instead, Walsh believes that as of right now, Houston and Atlanta are the front runners.
This goes along with previous reports that had those two competing with Salt Lake City to get the NHL's latest team, but with the right backing and the right infrastructure, it makes perfect sense for the NHL, with many believing that by 2030, we should have two brand new NHL teams.
