Reports have confirmed that the injury that Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko suffered in the 2024 Playoffs cannot be repaired by any surgeons.

The Vancouver Canucks' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>The Vancouver Canucks might be paying the price for overworking their star goaltender during the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs, which has had some long-lasting effects.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported Monday that the top goaltender of the Canucks Thatcher Demko is dealing with a lingering injury from that intense playoff run. The bad news is surgery isn't an option at this time, so he'll have to continue living with the problem.
"The best piece of information I've been given is quite simply, he's going to have to learn to play with this," revealed Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast. "It's not something that can be fixed with surgery but it's something that he's going to have to learn to play through and can play through. Right now I don't know that he's gonna be ready for the start of the season," admitted Friedman. "What I don't get the sense is that the Canucks are worried that he's gonna be out half the year."

Making things even more interesting, there are some questions as to whether Thatcher Demko will be ready to go to start the season. Elliotte Friedman added that his availability is in question but the injury probably isn't of the variety that will keep him out very long.
Even more concerning than that is a belief by some that Thatcher Demko's current injury was exacerbated because he was rushed back onto the ice too quickly following his last setback. This decision to supposedly rush him may well be casting a long shadow of doubt over the future of the Canucks.
"What it did is it forced Demko to rush to get back and I'm just not convinced that he was ever 100% healthy," revealed Friedman. "Demko comes back, wins the one game, and then he gets hurt."
