The Edmonton Oilers find themselves trailing the Florida Panthers 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final. Yet, captain Connor McDavid is undeterred, using the situation as a rallying cry against skeptics.
This isn't new territory for McDavid and his team. The Oilers have overcome adversity multiple times this postseason. They were down 3-2 in the second round against the Vancouver Canucks and faced a 2-1 deficit to the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final. In both instances, they managed to bounce back and emerge victorious.
However, the challenge is significant. Historically, only five teams have come back from a 2-0 deficit in the Stanley Cup Final out of 54 attempts.
Teammate Leon Draisaitl took a more introspective approach, shouldering some responsibility for the team's offensive struggles. So far, the Oilers have only managed to score once in the series, with Mattias Ekholm finding the net in Game 2.
With Game 3 set for Thursday night in Edmonton, the Oilers have a chance to prove McDavid right and turn the series around. It remains to be seen if they can leverage their past experiences and rise to the occasion once more.
