The Calgary Flames and Montreal Canadiens came together last off-season to send Sean Monahan to Montreal as a salary cap dump, but it's now been revealed that it was a very different trade idea to begin with.
Reportedly, the original deal would have seen Josh Anderson head to Calgary with Monahan and future assets heading back to Montreal, but after Nazem Kadri shocked the NHL world and joined Calgary, the deal changed.
This move would have been one that shook the foundation of the Canadian NHL teams and the wider NHL landscape, but for Calgary, it appeared they were more interested in landing the Stanley Cup Champion Kadri.
Will Anderson leave Montreal?
Josh Anderson has been with the Canadiens since 2020, and over that time his name has surfaced in many trade talks due to his solid production of 88 points in 190 games with the team.
However, GM Kent Hughes is reluctant to add him in any deal unless it blows him away, and with his experience and leadership at 29-years of age, it appears the veteran is going to be in Montreal for a while yet.
