A recent report has surfaced that clarifies who in the Leafs Core Four will be traded as their contracts continue to rise and put them in cap struggles.

Report Surfaces That Mitch Marner Is Next to be Traded From the Leafs

Brad Treliving will be faced with a major conflict this offseason as he is set to try and sign William Nylander. Nylander is more than earning his expected pay raise this year, which makes it incredibly difficult for Treliving to try and fit him in with other superstars making over $10 million a year.
Brad Treliving stays consistent on William Nylander, the most intriguing pending UFA of 2024: "Our objective is to get Willy signed, and we're working at it."
That said, the Leafs also need to explore how to round out their roster. They are in need of a stay-at-home defenseman, one who can help anchor their back end and play top minutes against the opposing team's best players.
A solution that is being thrown around now is a trade between the Leafs and the Chicago Blackhawks that would see Mitch Marner traded for Seth Jones. Marner has slowed over the last few games and carries a significant contract that is constraining the Leafs' ability to make moves.

Marner's Full No Move Clause Would Be the Biggest Hurdle For Treliving To Trafe Him

The biggest issue with the proposal above is that Marner has a full no-move clause in his contract. Brad Treliving would have to convince him to waive that in order to get anything done.
There are some convincing arguments that might get Marner to waive his NMC, like getting a change of scenery from the spotlight of the Leafs or getting a chance to build the Blackhawks with Bedard.
Ultimately, the Leafs are in a difficult predicament, with too much skill garnering too much Cap that they don't have, especially when they require some additions elsewhere in the roster. Now, signs are pointing to Mitch Marner being the first to go from the Core.
