The Winnipeg Jets have been one of the more interesting teams to watch this season. While many fans expected them to enter a retool phase over the offseason, instead they have done the opposite, building themselves into a legitimate powerhouse in the central division. Now the team could be poised to add more key pieces at the trade deadline.
Calgary Flames Shopping Elias Lindholm At The Trade Deadline
The Calgary Flames have been another interesting team to watch this year as they navigate what could be the beginning of a rebuild. The team has already moved defenseman Nikita Zadorov and other players are rumored to be on the trade block, including Lindholm. Multiple teams have been rumored to be in on the veteran center, including the Jets central division rival Colorado Avalanche.
The #Flames have had Lindholm connected to the Avalanche a couple of times with trade rumours, but a new name has emerged in a trade package in Bowen Byram.
What could this trade look like and what would Calgary be getting? More details are here!
Jets Rumored To Be In On Elias Lindholm At The Trade Deadline
Now NHL insider David Pagnotta believes that the Jets are in on Lindholm as well.
"Going into the season, there was some word that maybe they would address the blueline (this season), but with that structure and how they're playing defensively, and with the All-Star performance of Connor Hellebuyck, they may veer in the direction of a second-line center. Don't be surprised if Elias Lindholm is a guy they get a little more involved in. There is some interest now."
This phrasing is perhaps not that convincing, but Pagnotta's logic is sound. The Jets have been one of the best teams in the league in terms of goals against per game and they could use improved center depth as Vladislav Namestnikov is currently centering the second line.
While Namestnikov has served admirably well in that position, there is no doubt that most other NHL teams will have better depth down the middle come playoff time. With center depth being so important in the second season, it stands to reason that the team would be interested in adding Lindholm.
