With no extension in sight for William Nylander, and Auston Matthews still unsigned, all signs are pointing to a potential trade for Willy.

Training Camp Looms

Training Camp is only 4 weeks away, and Treliving still has significant work cut out for himself.
His priority when he arrived in Toronto was to get Matthews and Nylander signed, and he has yet to do either.
Yesterday morning on TSN1050's First Up radio show, Dave Feschuk made it clear just how big of a distraction it would be having one of these players unsigned during camp.
"If training camp opens and those deals are not closed books then we have a problem. It'll be the conversation that sucks the oxygen out of the room. It'll be the only topic. if I'm betting I would bet that William Nylander is not gunna be done. Auston Matthews will be done but Nylander wont be. It's gunna be the daily Nylander watch....If it comes to having to make a deal and I think it might cause they're pretty far a part,"

Nylander Knows His Worth

Nylander has never been afraid to stand up for what he believes he is worth, but it is that stubbornness that might result in him leaving Toronto.
Feschuk believes this is what will result in a trade for Nylander.
You gotta trade him, you can't lose him for nothing... I know there's people saying you can have him as your own rental for the year and get the cap space the following summer, I understand but I don't love the idea of a guy on the way out playing without a contract, it doesn't bode well for me if I'm in that room."

Without a signed Matthews contract, its hard to know just how much the Leafs can budge on Nylander's deal.
Its clear though that William Nylander has one of the most valuable contracts in the NHL as of today, and that might make him valuable on the trade market. Leaf Fans seem to agree.
I agree about the idea with Nylander. I think a trade will be difficult, but I hate the idea of him leaving for nothing. Sadly I don't believe he will be extended
