The Edmonton Oilers may be looking for a better scoring punch in the lineup and the option is on the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Articles idea for a trade between the teams

The author of the article suggests that the Oilers and Penguins should swap Evander Kane for Jake Guentzel if the Penguins are out of the playoffs by the trade deadline.
The author says the deal would be like the one the Oilers made last season.
It could be a deal similar to the Mattias Ekholm deal from last season. It could also be as simple as adding a couple of picks (2nd or 3rd rounders) and getting the Penguins to retain a bit of salary.

There is likely not much of a chance that the Penguins would accept that, but crazier things have happened. The Oilers would likely have to add much more, especially if they were to sign Guentzel after. It is also unknown if the Penguins would even move Guentzel as they may use him until the very last NHL game.

How the two players match up in salary and statistics

Guentzel makes $6 million and is in the final year of his contract while Kane makes $5.125 million and is signed until 2026-27. The two really do not come close in stats though as Guentzel has 46 points in 41 games this season while Kane has 25 points in 38 games.
He has scored over a point-per-game in four of the last five seasons while Kane has never scored over a point a game in his career. Guentzel is also three years younger.
Guentzel will, of course, be looking for a big raise this off-season and he easily deserves it. It is unknown if the Penguins will be able to keep him, but the Oilers can theoretically keep him if they can acquire him.
