10 draft picks traded by team to acquire top Seattle Kraken prospect

The Brampton Steelheads announced on social media X that they've made a huge trade with the Kitchener Rangers, where they acquired Carson Rehkopf, a top prospect with Seattle, in exchange for 10 draft picks. The draft picks are three second round picks (2025, 2026, 2027), three third round picks (2025 x2, 2028), three fourth round picks (2025, 2026, 2027), and a seventh round pick in 2026.

This trade happened just weeks before training camps in the OHL begin, as pre-season games are also slated to start on August 30th.

Rehkopf was spectacular for the Rangers last season, having scored 52 goals in 60 games, while also adding 43 assists. Many were puzzled as to why Kitchener would trade the 2024 Team Canada World Junior star, and the reason for that is that Kitchener is entering somewhat of a re-build, as two of their top players besides Rehkopf, Filip Mesar and Eduard Sale, will likely be joining their NHL clubs next season, Montreal and Seattle.

Brampton is the total opposite of Kitchener, being a real force in the OHL, and now that they've added Rehkopf, everyone expects them to likely finish first in the East and could be favorites to win the entire league. The team is loaded with draft eligible players who are expected to get chosen by NHL teams next year, such as Porter Malone and Jack Ivankovic.

Brampton plays out of the Central division, and it is expected to be loaded with tons of talent, as there are going to be plenty of good teams competing every night. Fans will be keeping a close eye out on these battles.
