Fans looked on in horror after Ethiopa's world record-holding runner Lamecha Girma was hospitalized after falling in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Lamecha Girma is one of Ethiopa's most impressive runners. The 23-year-old is currently sitting at #21 in the world for his category of long-distance endurance races. Last year, he became the world record holder for the 3000-meter steeplechase in Paris with the Wanda Diamond League, clocking in at 7:52.11.

However, in this year's Olympics in Paris, things took a turn for the worst. Girma was participating in the same event where he held his world record, but when attempting to make it over one of the barriers, his ankle hooked him on, throwing him over violently. The fall was so severe that he had to be carried out via stretcher, with many believing he fell unconscious when his head hit the track.
Later, reports suggested this was indeed the case, with hours passing by without full consciousness. Luckily, Girma is said to not be in any life-threatening danger but will have to spend significant time recovering from this injury.
Though he did not get the gold he was going for, this terrifying fall could have gone much worse. Hopefully, Lumecha Girma will make a full recovery and get back to breaking world records for Ethiopia before too long.
