The Detroit Red Wings have built themselves back into a potential playoff team, and now, they may look to add another elite top-six player in Nikolaj Ehlers.

Despite some incredible regular season performances in recent years, the Winnipeg Jets could be looking to sell this off-season, and it's resulted in plenty of speculation surrounding veteran star Nikolaj Ehlers. The 28-year old has spent the entirety of his career thus far in Winnipeg, but now, an intriguing trade has emerged on PuckPedia that would send him to the Detroit Red Wings, who are looking to crack their eight year playoff drought in 2024/25.
Red Wings get:
Nikolaj Ehlers

Jets get:
Jonatan Berggren
Dmitri Buchelnikov
2025 first-round pick
2026 second-round pick

The exchange would see The Red Wings get Danish forward Nikolaj Ehlers in exchange for two elite prospects and two draft picks.

On the surface, this deal would be a massive win for Winnipeg, who would land two intriguing picks and two talented prospects that simply won't find their way into the Red Wings lineup in the near future. While there's speculation, the expectation is that the Jets hold onto him this off-season, with the team looking to finally go deep in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
After extensions to Mark Schiefele and Connor Hellebuyck this past off-season, the team are clearly not looking for a complete reset, and with Ehlers still in his prime, whatever they do with him will greatly impact the immediate and future success of this team.
