In a remarkable historical precedent, one team in the IIHF U18 league managed an unbelievable 57-0 shutout in the World Qualifiers.

As the playoffs pick up steam in the NHL, the World Qualifiers for the International Ice Hockey Federation's U18 league. However, viewers were in for an incomprehensible display, as Tahiland's team beat the opposing team Kuwait in a staggering 57-0 shutout.

This is nowhere close to the record NHL shutout, which occurred roughly 80 years ago when the Detroit Red Wings took down the New York Rangers 15-0. This is less than a third of the blowout faced by the IIHF U18 Kuwait team.
"79 years ago today ON THIS DAY in hockey history (January 23, 1944):

The @DetroitRedWings defeat the Rangers 15-0 in the largest shutout victory in NHL history (record still stands today)"

However, the opposing goalie is not the only source of blame for this irredeemable defeat. On top of this staggering score, Thailand's team also obliterated Kuwait in total shots on goal, which stood at 122-1, meaning their goalie made a ridiculous 65 saves throughout the game.
"Thailand beat Kuwait 57-0 in an IIHF U18 World Qualifier 🤯

Shots on goal were 122-1 Thailand 😳"

Fans who have just taken notice of this matchup have shared their thoughts on the matter. Some defend members of the Kuwaiti team for their disadvantages and the sheer amount of goals saved, while others take the opportunity to joke about the team's utter destruction.
Thailand's IIHF U18 team is now leading their group in the standings, holding first in all categories but power play. They will face Iran's team on Friday in what people can only expect will be another victory for the team. Whether or not they will ever reach that scoring threshold again will remain a mystery.
