The Winnipeg Jets made some smart trades this season, but ultimately it ended with a first round exit, and now we know the future of two big acquisitions.
During the 2023-24 campaign, Winnipeg added two veteran forwards in Sean Monahan and Tyler Toffoli, with the hopes of helping this deep, talented team on a Stanley Cup run. Unfortunately, they ran into a red-hot Colorado Avalanche team, ultimately falling in the first round, and now both are set to hit free agency.
According to Ken Wiebe and Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press, the fate for them is very different, as they have predicted Toffoli will move on while Monahan will return as a free agent.
Also, Tyler Toffoli will move on. Sean Monahan appears likely to stick around.
It appears as though Winnipeg may have some competition for the veteran Monahan however;
Toffoli spent less time in Winnipeg, as he was a trade deadline acquisition, and while he played well, he didn't quite connect with the fan base as well as Toffoli. The Hockey Writers recently named him as one of three Jets likely to move on from the team this summer;
Whatever the case with these two, the Jets have 10 players potentially leaving this summer, and with Rick Bowness already announcing his retirement, it's safe to say that there's plenty of changes coming this off-season in Winnipeg.
