Hurricanes' Svechnikov Blows Up Rangers Goaltender Shesterkin
Svechnikov went behind the net to make a play while Shesterkin was moving to reposition himself into the crease, it appears that Svechnikov stuck his leg out and laid the shoulder on Shesterkin.
There was absolutely no reason for Svechnikov to make such a dangerous and dirty play. Shesterkin already shot the puck away from where Svechnikov was chasing, and he simply could've gone around the Rangers netminder.
Absolute bush league stuff and fans are taking to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their disgust or unfortunate support on this play.
Right after the play happened, a massive scrum ensued signalling the Rangers' disgust with their goaltender being hit in such a manner.
Rangers fans absolutely let Svechnikov have it too as he was escorted to the penalty box. The "Rempe!" chants rang throughout Madison Square Garden, but that would be a stupid fight for Svechnikov to accept, and I'm pretty sure he learned his lesson when he fought Alex Ovechkin.
About consistent for Stanley Cup Playoffs NHL refereeing, Svechnikov only got two minutes for goaltender interference, and some people think it should've been a major. The original call on the play was a major and reversed to a minor.
Some fans even thought it was clear intent to injure.
If I'm Andrei Svechnikov, you have to play with your head on a swivel after running the goaltender in such a blatant manner.
