However, it appeared as though Zegras wanted a long-term deal with Anaheim, and while the AAV of $5.75 million is solid, the term on this deal could come back to haunt the Ducks one day.
It's become well known that Pat Verbeek, the Ducks GM has many reservations about Zegras, as he's not Verbeek's type of player, and now, we could see the rising star in a new uniform one day.
While it's likely that Anaheim give Zegras the time to grow and become the star many are expecting, the Sportsnet panel, headlined by Elliotte Friedman and Nick Kypreos have hinted that the short-term deal is leading to a big move.
According to Kypreos, if Zegras doesn't become the superstar the organization expect, within the next one to one-and-a-half years, he'll be on the move, and if they can get back a great return in a potential deal, this is a win-win for the Ducks, as they either get a star run or a big time return.
