Over the past week, the Jeremy Swayman situation has been drawing more and more attention in Boston, and now, another wrinkle in the story has made this even more must-watch. According to TSN's Chris Johnston, the Bruins have claimed goaltender
Jiri Patera from waivers, in a move that could signal they are ready for an extended time without Jeremy Swayman in net.
In those eight games, Patera has been more than solid, putting together a 3.57 GAA and a .902 save percentage, so he'll likely not get a look as the starter moving forward, but as a backup or depth piece and a relatively cheap price, this was a good move to make for GM Don Sweeney. However, the team want to get Swayman back in net as soon as they can, but with the team between $500k and $1 million apart in negotiations and no one budging anytime soon, this will likely carry into the regular season.
In Patera, the Bruins are getting a former sixth-round pick with a chip on his shoulder, and after some fantastic performances for Vegas and the AHL's Henderson Silver Knights, he's ready to make an impact at the NHL level, and with no end to the Swayman saga in sight, it could be a fun story to watch for Patera.
