The goaltender Jeremy Swayman has officially signed a major contract with the Boston Bruins after months of negotiations.
In breaking news, the insider Elliotte Friedman revealed on Sunday morning that the Bruins and Swayman were close to reaching a deal.
Later, he confirmed the news, stating that Swayman agreed on an eight-year, $8.25 million AAV contract in Boston.
The Bruins posted the following video, in which we see Swayman arriving at the Bruins' facilities after missing out on the whole training camp.
Fans are happy to be seeing the Bruins' number one goalie back with the team. People were afraid that the salary arbitration hearing of last season, as well as the rough contract negotiations, would push Swayman out of the organization.
President Cam Neely made the mistake of taking out the negotiations to the public, something that wasn't appreciated by Swayman and his agent.
At the time, the goalie stated that he would need to think about his future and his options.
Fortunately, everybody came to their senses and focused on what truly matters: the start of the season.
It all starts on Tuesday against the Florida Panthers for a playoff rematch between the Atlantic Division rivals. Swayman didn't forget how it ended against the Panthers back in May, and it'll be interesting to see how he bounces back this year, with his new contract.
