The Boston Bruins mean business as the season approaches, as they have just signed Tyler Johnson, former Stanley Cup champion, to a PTO.
Several reports are confirming that the Boston Bruins will be adding some much-needed help up front by signing former Stanley Cup champion Tyler Johnson to a professional tryout (PTO). The Bruins have been looking to add some depth to their forward group for several seasons now and have done so with this move.
Over the last three seasons, Tyler Johnson has been quite the leader, as he helped guide the Chicago Blackhawks through their rebuild. During those seasons, he was a consistent 30-point player even though he dealt with injuries.
Back in his prime with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tyler Johnson was a spectacular top-six forward who once hit 72 points. He will provide a veteran presence in Boston and will definitely help their middle-six group.
Whether Tyler Johnson can remain healthy throughout the season remains to be seen. If he can, then this could be a fantastic signing at the end of the day. Johnson will need to make the roster during preseason as this is simply a tryout, but if he proves his worth, he will find himself wearing a B on his chest come October.
