Calgary's ask for Elias Lindholm reveals their long-term plans as a franchise.
Calgary's Lindholm Ask
Earlier today, Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now revealed what the Calgary Flames would be asking for from the Boston Bruins in an Elias Lindholm trade.
«If the Bruins want Lindholm, likely [Jake] DeBrusk. They don't want any picks, and the Bruins have none. They want a scoring winger that can make up for [Tyler] Toffoli being traded. There's probably more that would be in that trade, but DeBrusk would be the target, I think.»
This trade would send Jake DeBrusk who is coming off of a 27-goal 50-point campaign in 64 games and a bit more for Elias Lindholm who just had a 22-goal 62-point year with the Flames.
Rebuild or Retool?
With this being the ask for Lindholm, it gives everybody a clear vision of what Calgary intends on doing which is to retool. After trading Matthew Tkachuk for Jonathan Huberdeau and Mackenzie Weegar, it was evident that the Flames wanted to remain competitive.
While fans were becoming concerned that the Flames would need to rebuild after trading Tyler Toffoli for an underwhelming return, it appears the Flames want to stick to their guns.
If they can see bounce-back seasons from Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri then they could realistically compete for the top spot in the Pacific division.
