The former first-round pick of the Calgary Flames Jakob Pelletier has just been signed by the club to a two-way contract.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Jakob Pelletier might be heading towards a reset with the Calgary Flames since he reportedly inked a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will be announced in due course per Friedman.
The 23-year-old forward had a really rough 2023-24 season due to injuries. Coming off a very promising 2022-23 season in the AHL, when he notched 37 points in 35 games, Jakob Pelletier seemed primed for NHL action. But a pre-season upper-body injury shelved him for months, really throwing a wrench into his development.
Although he returned to the ice in January 2024, Jakob Pelletier could not get his form back. He played 13 games with the Flames, recording only three points before being sent back to the AHL's Calgary Wranglers to finish the season.
Now that he does have a new contract in hand, Jakob Pelletier is ready to make his comeback. He has been training hard this summer, including with teammate Jonathan Huberdeau, with hopes of earning a regular spot in the NHL lineup. While the two-way deal does give the team some flexibility, Pelletier looks to prove he is worth a permanent spot. A healthy start could be just what he needs to get back on track.
Barring an injury and provided he gets a decent start, there's a good chance Jakob Pelletier can quickly move beyond being strictly a depth player and carve out a much bigger role for himself with the Flames this season.
